QUi sommes nous? - About us

AILLEURS… meaning : ELSEWHERE. A Blog. THE Blog. But above all: an encounter. Or rather: encounters…Two authors, sharing the same taste for that “something else” that makes life more beautiful. One adventure, which is also a blog. And a magazine. And so much more… Cat expresses herself with images and creative visual concepts. Sandrine with words. Both are also entrepreneurs, trend setters and talent finders, artists and designers in their own right… and passionate travellers. Sharing the same taste for well-understood, i.e. “out-of-the-beaten-tracks-and-routine-bound-opinions” luxury, lifestyle, exhibitions, beauty, hotels, travels, locations… and the creators behind them: artists, designers, writers, cooks, fellow-entrepreneurs and craftspeople… Our partnership was born out of shared tastes and affinities as well as an uncompromising idea of what we understand as “exceptional”. A growing, evolving, always fluid and open appetite for discovery. And the pleasure of sharing it…with regular e-features and stories on new trends and creators, exhibitions and locations, tips and suggestions of gateways, confidential and private addresses we love, encounters with talented people and extraordinary places. Discoveries, inspirational meetings, surprises and wonders, but also topics and trends we find appealing or challenging, disruptive sometimes, inspiring always. This is AILLEURS, the “much-more-than-just-another-blog” but genuinely unique E-MAGAZINE. Let us lead you into ELSEWHERE… ready for immediate boarding? It’s a journey for … AILLEURS. Bon voyage!

SANDRINE L. MEHR

Historian, columnist, PR and Communication specialist, writer and traveller, gallery owner and antique dealer, specialized in tribal and primitive art from India and South-East Asia, as well as the founder and owner of Rouge Coromandel, a brand-cum-boutique offering an exclusive range of rare “niche” perfumes and exclusive curios… a perfect Snake Gemini, whose interests range from precious antique silks and ethnic textiles and jewellery to travelling and collecting works of arts from all around the world, in the spirit of a baroque cabinet of curiosities. Hopelessly nostalgic of ideal and past Comptoirs des Indesand other East- and West-India Companies, where civilizations and dreams used to mix and subtly interact to create a world of their own. Of regal sailing vessels launched on faraway oceans, their holds filled with treasures. And of fabulous Silk and Spice Roads, at the confluence of fascinating lost cultures and contemporary trends… From the mule tracks and passes of the Himalayas to the posh art galleries of Paris Rive Gauche and the ghosts draped in sepia veils and crinolines of former great female travellers, Sandrine follows her own, baroque path, full of perfumes, colours and words she insists on writing by hand, and with an ink pen, on old-style logbooks… prior to transposing them on Cat’s photographs in AILLEURS the Blog.

CAT SOUBBOTNIK

Artist, photographer, gallery owner, poised in inspired balance between Paris, Berlin and Switzerland, her very own creative centres, mixing travels with discoveries in a constant and fluid inspirational approach. Cat weaves a world made of vibrations and energies, light and shadows, superbly coherent yet uncannily bewitching, constantly drawing on her experiences and encounters. As a photographer, she honed her skills and gained a world-renown experience with Hans Gedda, the famous Swedish portraitist and photographer. In her own words, he helped her “to sharp her eye and creative intuition while shaping her technical discipline and artistic process with an uncompromising level of requirement”: perception, perspective, re-creation of light and substance through her lens and artistic sensitivity: the very soul of her subjects and work. With that constant questioning, always at the heart of her approach as a photographer: how to transmute reality without betraying it? How to portraylife in its rawness and truth as well as in its never-ending, evolutive transformations, through the lens of her camera? “To work on reality by abstracting from it” is the guideline of her work, constantly balancing between the inspired and the tangible, the breath of creativity and the concrete physicality of reality. Constantly growing and evolving, utterly fluid, always. She has exhibited her work since 1995, in a consistent yet light coherence, through numerous exhibitions, books, artistic collaborations and residences.
